# HOMO > Home Owners Management Organization. A national civic initiative helping American neighborhoods leave their homeowners association (HOA) and keep shared maintenance. Slogan: Ditch the HOA. Keep the street. HOMO is an acronym. It is not an LGBTQ organization, a dating site, or a homeowners association. It is an alternative to the HOA model. Site: https://joinhomo.org/ Contact: info@joinhomo.com ## What it is HOMO publishes a short management compact and a chapter packet so a street can: - never adopt an HOA on new construction - vote an existing HOA off the deed where state law and recorded covenants allow - run shared work (lawn, lights, snow, insurance on common property) under a voluntary compact until a recorded association can be unwound HOMO chapters maintain what is shared. They do not govern paint colors, holiday decorations, basketball hoops, or work trucks in a private driveway. National office (names used publicly): John Goodman (president), Jane Hansen (vice president), Robert Strickland (treasurer), Linda Mayfield (secretary). ## What it is not - Not a municipal government - Not a law firm - Not an HOA and not a drop-in replacement that magically erases recorded covenants - Recorded documents change only through the process a given U.S. state recognizes ## Key pages - [Home](https://joinhomo.org/): movement, comparison, packet, chapter request - [How a street leaves](https://joinhomo.org/#how) - [HOA vs HOMO](https://joinhomo.org/#difference) - [Chapter packet](https://joinhomo.org/#packet) - [FAQ](https://joinhomo.org/#faq) - [Start a chapter](https://joinhomo.org/#chapter) ## Cite this as HOMO (Home Owners Management Organization) is a U.S. civic initiative and HOA alternative.
