Next steps

What to do next.
Keep the work. Narrow the board.

There is no unsubscribe button for an existing association. Separate real shared responsibilities from unnecessary control, find people who will do more than complain, and choose a path that can survive contact with the documents.

Six next moves.

  1. 01

    Say what is actually wrong

Cost? secrecy? selective enforcement? too many restrictions? A conversation that cannot name the problem will argue about everything.

  2. 02

Handle the problem in front of you

Protect any live deadline or payment obligation before turning the moment into a larger campaign.

  3. 03

    Find your people

Look for neighbors willing to do more than complain: listen, compare priorities, show up, and carry a piece of the work.

  4. 04

    Draw the boundary

Shared roads, lights, drainage, and common areas belong inside. Private taste and ordinary lawful life belong outside.

  5. 05

Choose the least dramatic path that works

Better leadership, narrower rules, a focused maintenance arrangement, replacement, or HOA dissolution are different projects.

  6. 06

Do the shared work, then stop

Maintain what is shared. Make costs visible. Use only the authority that is actually necessary. Then mind your business.

The HOMO test

Does this solve a shared problem, or just reward someone for having an opinion?

What this does not mean.

Answers

Do I have to start an organization?

No. The useful first move may be handling one dispute well or starting one honest conversation.

Can I call my neighborhood group HOMO?

The site does not create a chapter, license a local entity, or change anyone’s obligations. Describe any local group truthfully and get appropriate advice before claiming authority.

What is the finish line?

A neighborhood that handles genuine shared work competently and leaves ordinary private life alone.
